Four Italian Garden Festivals This Autumn
Autumn brings a series of garden festivals across Italy. Horti Aperti at Pavia's Orto Botanico Alma Borromeo (September 21–22) explores ecology and urban quality of life through talks by Stefano Mancuso and others, plus artworks by Arnaldo Pomodoro, Luigi Mainolfi, Gianfranco Pardi, Ivan, and David Tremlett. Landscape Festival in Bergamo's Città Alta features French landscape architect Catherine Mosbach transforming Piazza Vecchia into a garden. Interno Verde opens over 300 private gardens across Ferrara, Piacenza, Mantova, Parma, and Vicenza on September weekends. Orticolario at Villa Erba on Lake Como (October 3–6) is themed 'Terrae' with architect Michele De Lucchi as guest of honour, presenting objects in natural materials. Proceeds support five local landscape associations.
