Four Flags Project Launches in São Paulo with Artist Flags to Support Artists During Pandemic

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Galeria Jaqueline Martins launches the Four Flags 2020 São Paulo project on April 22, 2020, as a response to social isolation during the coronavirus pandemic. Artist-designed flags will be raised twice weekly on the gallery's facade. Each flag is produced in an edition of 4 + 1 P.A., with sales revenue of R$800 fully directed to participating artists. The initiative, originally active in Amsterdam under curators Julia Mullié and Nick Terra, aims to stimulate artistic practice during quarantine and generate income for artists. Thomaz Rosa is the first artist to exhibit his flag, followed by Ana Mazzei, Pedro França, and Cibelle Cavalli Bastos. The project hopes to encourage reflection on how exhibitions and cultural projects occupy institutional spaces globally.
