Four Exhibitions on the French Riviera Explore Murality

Four exhibitions on the Côte d'Azur, at Galerie Catherine Issert, Espace de l'art concret, and Villa Arson, each engage with the wall as a support for artworks. Pascal Pinaud's 'Fumer dans le vent' at Galerie Catherine Issert (Saint-Paul de Vence, Dec 15, 2018–Feb 9, 2019) repainted walls olive green, leaving white reserves from his previous show, then hung new works over them, creating a memory effect. Sylvie Fanchon's 'QUEPUISJEFAIREPOURVOUS AIDER' at Espace de l'art concret (Mouans-Sartoux, Dec 1, 2018–Apr 28, 2019) dialogues between murals and canvases, decomposing pictorial matter and writing, continuing her work at Frac Franche-Comté. At Villa Arson (Nice, Feb 8–May 26, 2019), Flora Moscovici's 'dérobées' with Linda Sanchez targets inaccessible lanterns, using monochrome and gradients, while Sanchez's curved clay-covered veil floats in the space. The main group show 'Tainted Love. Club Edit' evokes clubbing with works by Lise Haller Baggesen and Norbert Bisky, who covered walls in red and orange paint before hanging his paintings, creating a saturated narrative. The exhibitions were not coordinated but share a focus on murality.
