Four Centuries of Emilian Painting at BPER Banca Gallery in Modena

Following the success of the Antonio Ligabue exhibition, Galleria BPER Banca in Modena presents 'Nelle stanze dell’arte. Dipinti svelati di antichi maestri', a survey of Emilian Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque painting curated by Lucia Peruzzi. The show is held in the bank's gallery space on via Scudari, near the cathedral, and features works from the permanent collection alongside newly revealed devotional paintings. It highlights a 'Paduan Raphaelism' blending Raphael's perfection with Lombard and Northern European landscape influences, as seen in Francesco Zaganelli's 'Madonna with Child' and Orazio Samacchini's 'Sacra Famiglia'. A wall is dedicated to 17th-century Caravaggism with works by Alessandro Tiarini and Giacomo Cavedoni. The exhibition contrasts Annibale and Ludovico Carracci with a 'Saint Jerome' and an 'Allegory of Abundance', and concludes with a comparison between Marcantonio Franceschini's classicist 'Rachel and Leah' and Giuseppe Maria Crespi's realist 'Sacra Famiglia nella bottega del falegname', which Peruzzi describes as anticipating Goya. The gallery emphasizes educational outreach and family-friendly visits.
