exhibition · 2026-05-05

At the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, four artists presented unique installations in and around Piazza San Marco. Shirin Neshat (born 1957 in Qazvin) unveiled "The Home of My Eyes" at Museo Correr, showcasing portraits of Azerbaijanis alongside cultural inscriptions, as well as her video "Roja" (2016), which addresses themes of displacement. At Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Francesca Montinaro's work "Communitas Immunitas" included "11.146.312 meters," depicting Somali girl Nasra's journey to Italy, along with the video "ritratto continuo mod.3.375.020.000." Yuri Ancarani (born 1972 in Ravenna) displayed "RIO GRANDE. Postcards from the border" at Caffè Florian, a three-screen video focused on the U.S.-Mexico border. Douglas Gordon (born 1966 in Glasgow) presented "Gente di Palermo" at Prigioni di Palazzo Ducale, juxtaposing mummies with a helium dolphin balloon.
