Four Art Books Explore Travel, Money, and Spirituality
A review of four art books covers travel in Armenia, the financialization of art, Mediterranean urban projects, and sacred art contemplation. Christian Oxenius's 'A Contemporary Art Experience' (Skira, 2018) recounts the first Armenian Contemporary Art Triennial in 2017, curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg, as a homage to René Daumal's 'Mount Analogue'. Max Haiven's 'Art after Money, Money after Art' (Pluto Press, 2018) argues for abolishing both money and art to counter financialization. Marco Trulli's 'La Ville Ouverte' (Viaindustriae, 2018) documents the project active since 2011, in partnership with BJCEM, covering 2014-2017 with politically sensitive projects and essays by Christian Caliandro. Andrea Dall'Asta's 'Dio chiama con arte' (Àncora, 2019) offers sixteen 'contemplations' on sacred works by Caravaggio and Claudio Parmiggiani, including Antonello da Messina's Annunciata. The article was published in Artribune Magazine #47 by Marco Enrico Giacomelli.
