Fotografiska to launch London photography museum in Whitechapel Gallery building
Fotografiska, the Swedish Museum of Photography, will establish a London branch in 2018. This private photography museum, founded in 2010 within a restored Art Nouveau building on Stockholm's waterfront, will occupy the ground floor of Whitechapel Gallery's new building designed by Fletcher Priest architects. According to The Guardian, the institution has long sought appropriate London facilities. Tommy Rönngren, Swedish co-founder and chairman, described London as one of the world's most dynamic photography cities. He identified Whitechapel as a perfect location, calling it one of London's most dynamic areas. The expansion represents Fotografiska's first international branch.
