Fotografica Festival Debuts in Bergamo with Migration Theme

A new photography festival, Fotografica. Festival di Fotografia Bergamo, launches from November 4 to 30, 2016, across multiple venues in Bergamo, Italy. The first edition focuses on migration and borders, titled 'OltreConfine' (Beyond Borders), exploring the desperate journeys of refugees and stories of integration or rejection. Artistic director Denis Curti, editor of Il Fotografo magazine, leads the program featuring international photographers Alessandro Penso, Giovanni Diffidenti, Fabrizio Villa, Simone Cerio, and Monika Bulaj. Exhibitions include Penso's 'OneDay' at Palazzo della Ragione, Diffidenti's 'Libya off the wall' and 'The only thing left to do is cling to God' at the former prison Sant'Agata, and Villa's 'Io ti salverò. Nel Mediterraneo sulla nave della speranza' also at Sant'Agata. The festival includes talks, guided tours, and debates. It follows similar initiatives like the Vienna Design Week and the MigrArti film award by Mibact, and coincides with Rome's Fotografia Festival running until January 17, 2016.
