Fotografia Europea 2017 Explores Archives Along Via Emilia

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The 12th edition of Fotografia Europea, a festival based in Reggio Emilia, has expanded along the Via Emilia to include four major institutions: MAST in Bologna, Fondazione Fotografia in Modena, CSAC in Parma, and Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia. The section titled 'FE sulla via Emilia' focuses on the theme of memory and archives. At MAST, the exhibition 'La forza delle immagini' presents industrial photographs from the museum's collection, tracing the historical impact of work on individuals. In Modena, Fondazione Fotografia showcases the archive of Tina Mazzini Zuccoli (1928–2006), a globe-trotting teacher who documented her travels and used them as educational tools. At CSAC in Parma, 'Objets trouvés – Archivi per un grande magazzino' explores the history of the Rinascente department store through photographs, sketches, fashion catalogs, advertisements, packaging, and products. At Collezione Maramotti, Elisabetta Benassi (born 1966 in Rome) presents 'It starts with the firing,' an investigation into the Tate Gallery's 1972 acquisition of Carl Andre's 'Equivalent VIII,' which was criticized by British media. Benassi has extracted phrases from newspapers and posted them around Reggio Emilia, also compiling them into a book. The festival runs until June 2017.
