Fosbury Architecture on Their Italian Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Biennale

Fosbury Architecture (FA), a collective founded in 2013 in Milan by Giacomo Ardesio, Alessandro Bonizzoni, Nicola Campri, Claudia Mainardi, and Veronica Caprino, designed the Italian Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, titled 'Spaziale. Ognuno appartiene a tutti gli altri.' The project, which they consider the culmination of a decade of collaboration, focuses on expanding architectural boundaries and promoting a renewed idea of architecture as a tool for mediating between communities and places. FA's approach involves working with fragile Italian territories, such as Ripa Teatina, where an unfinished hospital is being transformed into the Parco dell'Uccellaccio through a collaboration between the HPO collective and writer Claudia Durastanti. The collective cites a wide range of artistic influences, including Ellsworth Kelly, Marcel Broodthaers, Sol LeWitt, Frida Kahlo, and Joseph Beuys. FA emphasizes the importance of collective action, conscious resource use, and interdisciplinary alliances for the future.
