Fortune Pink diamond sells at Christie's Geneva Luxury Week for CHF 28.4 million
Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva saw the Fortune Pink, a 18.18-carat vivid pink diamond, sell for CHF 28,436,500 (including buyer's premium) to an anonymous Asian buyer after four minutes of bidding among three telephone bidders. The diamond, weighing 3.363 grams, is the largest pear-shaped vivid pink diamond ever auctioned. Vivid pink diamonds represent less than 2% of naturally colored diamonds, and fewer than 10% of pink diamonds weigh over 0.2 carats. The Fortune Pink had no secondary color tones. Its weight, with two 18s, is considered auspicious in Chinese numerology. The sale price was slightly below the low estimate of CHF 25 million. Christie's international Jewellery Department director Rahul Kadakia noted the market felt 'much more robust.' The auction achieved 87% sold by lot and a total of CHF 56,589,040. Other highlights included a Kashmir sapphire ring that tripled its high estimate, selling for CHF 428,000, and a Graff diamond ring at CHF 3,654,000. Meanwhile, Sotheby's Luxury Week at the Mandarin Oriental achieved 78% sold by lot, with top lots including a pair of unmounted diamonds (20.03 and 20.19 carats) for CHF 4,164,000 and the Mouawad Empress yellow diamond (37.50 carats) for CHF 2,409,500. The most popular lot at Sotheby's was Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2003-GA, which sold for CHF 14,690,000.
