Fornasetti Opens New Milan Space in Marinetti's Former Home

exhibition · 2026-05-05

A new three-level exhibition space dedicated to Piero Fornasetti has opened in Milan, at the corner of Corso Venezia and Via Senato, in the very building where Futurist Filippo Tommaso Marinetti once lived and worked. The venue, run by Barnaba Fornasetti, Piero's son and current head of the family company, showcases vintage objects from the historical Fornasetti archive alongside contemporary limited-edition and commission pieces produced by the Atelier using traditional artisanal techniques. In addition to Fornasetti works, the space presents a curated selection of design pieces by Tommaso Buzzi, Gio Ponti, Fulvio Bianconi, and Paolo Venini, as well as recent works in metacrilate by Jacopo Foggini and ceramic sculptures by Sergio Scognamiglio and Fausto Salvi. The opening marks the culmination of a creative legacy that began when Piero Fornasetti caught the attention of architect Gio Ponti in 1933 at the V Triennale di Milano with his printed scarves. This encounter led to a creative partnership that lasted until the early 1970s. Fornasetti, an eclectic experimenter in decoration, graphics, and interior design, was friends with artists such as Giorgio de Chirico and Fabrizio Clerici. He also ran the Galleria dei Bibliofili with Scheiwiller, where he exhibited and collected works by other artists.
