Former slaughterhouse becomes cultural hub in Milan suburb

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In Trezzano sul Naviglio, a former slaughterhouse has been transformed into Quintoquarto, a cultural hub conceived by Sofia Alberti and curated by Luca Zuccala. The project repurposes the disused cold storage room as an exhibition space. The inaugural show, 'Cadavre exquis' by Padua-born artist Chiara Sorgato (b. 1985), runs from September 29 to October 22, 2023. The exhibition features a central installation and five paper paintings on the walls, representing earth, water, vegetation, fungi, and animals. Sorgato used materials historically found in the cold room—aluminum, plexiglass, and cardboard—to absorb the site's memory. The project aims to give new life to abandoned places while honoring local history and traditions.
