Former Miss China Wang Yihan Opens Studio-Gallery in Singapore

artist · 2026-04-27

Wang Yihan, a contemporary Chinese artist and former Miss China (2011), opened the Wang Yihan Singapore Studio and Gallery on January 7, 2023, at 25 Chape Road in the Katong district of Singapore. The gallery occupies an early 20th-century colonial-style building chosen to blend Singapore's cultural roots with Wang's contemporary works. A charity auction at the opening raised S$30,000, donated to the China Red Cross and La Cura Mobility, a senior care provider in Singapore. Wang, who began painting at age four, combines childhood imagery with abstraction. She is a visiting lecturer at Shanghai Academy of Drama, Shanghai Normal University, and Donghua University. Her works were exhibited at the French Paris Art Exhibition in 2019 for the 50th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations, receiving the Médaille d'Honneur from the French government. Her art is held by the Dubai emiri family, the Japanese imperial family, and the prime ministers of France and Thailand. She is a member of the Shanghai Youth Art Association, Shanghai Art Association, and China Art Association. Singapore's art scene is growing, with Art SG (January 12–15, 2023) joining Frieze Seoul, Tokyo Gendai, Art Basel Hong Kong, and Singapore Art Week. Shuyin Yang, director of Art SG, notes Singapore's evolution as a cultural hub alongside its financial, tech, and aviation sectors, attracting younger collectors seeking culturally significant works reflecting Southeast Asian identity.
