Former Apple designer Julian Hoenig launches Amble One electric buggy

architecture-design · 2026-06-26

Former Apple designer Julian Hoenig and Forpeople founder Michael Tropper have launched Amble One, a doorless electric buggy for short-range mobility. The Portugal-based startup Amble, co-founded with entrepreneurs José António Uva and Adrien Roose, targets hotels with large estates as its primary market. The street-legal vehicle has a top speed of 65 km/h and a range of 100 km. Hoenig, who worked on Jony Ive's design team at Apple and previously at Audi and Lamborghini, initially designed the buggy for Uva's hotel São Lourenço do Barrocal. The design draws inspiration from the 1971 Lunar Rover and electric bicycles, featuring a skateboard-style battery platform and independent suspension. At 450 kg, it weighs about a quarter of an electric Mini Cooper. Materials include canvas and cork, chosen for durability. Amble plans to build other light utility vehicles on the same modular platform.
