Formafantasma's 'Cambio' Exhibition at Centro Pecci Explores Wood as Political Material

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'Cambio,' created by Studio Formafantasma and initially showcased at the Serpentine Gallery in London under the curation of Hans Ulrich Obrist and Rebecca Lewin, has been reinterpreted at the Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato, Italy, running until October 24, 2021. Curated by Cristiana Parrella, this display examines wood as a dynamic material. Visitors can experience an olfactory installation by Sissel Tolaas that envelops them in the scents of wood. Video presentations convey both data and emotional visuals related to wood. The exhibition includes common wooden items, many accompanied by analysis certificates indicating their origins from protected species. Notably, Giuseppe Penone's 'Albero in torsione destra' (1988) is featured, and all furniture is crafted from a tree felled by Storm Vaia in 2018. Studio Formafantasma partnered with Kew Gardens and other organizations.
