Forensic Architecture Founder Eyal Weizman Barred from U.S. Entry Ahead of Miami Exhibition

Eyal Weizman, the founder of Forensic Architecture, encountered difficulties entering the United States when his visa was revoked. He was en route to Miami for the debut of his organization's significant U.S. survey exhibition at the Museum of Art and Design. On February 18, 2020, Weizman learned via email that he had been flagged as a security threat by an algorithm, which was based on his travel history and connections to certain countries. During a meeting at the American embassy in London, officials requested 15 years of his travel records and contacts, which he refused to provide. Meanwhile, his wife, Ines Weizman, faced over two hours of detention at JFK Airport while traveling with their children. The Miami exhibition highlighted a new investigation into alleged mistreatment of migrant children at a Florida detention facility. Forensic Architecture's projects address human rights violations in Palestine, Syria, Mexico, and Germany, involving a diverse team of architects, artists, journalists, and researchers.
