Ford Recalls Over 500,000 Broncos Due to Engine Fire Risk

Ford has recalled 565,911 Broncos and Bronco Raptors built between 2021 and 2026 due to a wiring harness issue that can cause engine fires. The recall was announced after an investigation that began in June, prompted by 15 potential incidents (eight standard Broncos and seven Bronco Raptors). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published the recall notice earlier this week. The problem stems from insufficient abrasion protection on the wiring harness in the engine bay, which can lead to exposed wires and short circuits. Drivers may notice smoke from cabin vents, flames from the passenger side, or a warning message. Ford has a fix: dealers will add convolute and abrasion tape to the harness free of charge. The automaker estimates only 1 percent of recalled vehicles actually have the defect. Ford has already alerted dealerships and plans to notify customers between August 24 and 28. Owners can check their vehicle's status on the NHTSA recall website using license plate or VIN. The recall covers nearly all Broncos produced since the model's revival in 2021 (589,860 total).
