other · 2026-04-19

On March 24, Ford Racing and Multimatic factory driver Dirk Müller piloted the Mustang GTD Competition to a lap time of 6:40.835 minutes on the Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany, making it the second fastest American car in the circuit's history. This performance surpassed the previous GTD record by over 11 seconds and beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X's time of 6:49.275 minutes by more than eight seconds. The vehicle features a 5.2-litre supercharged V-8 engine exceeding 815 horsepower, an aggressive aero kit, lightweight magnesium wheels, and high-performance tires. Ford plans to sell the pre-production prototype in limited, serialized quantities in North America, with a price expected to exceed the base GTD's $327,960. The Nordschleife, known as the 'Green Hell,' is a 12.94-mile circuit with 73 turns and over 1,000 feet of elevation changes. Only the Ford GT Mk IV, with a time of 6:15.977 minutes, ranks ahead among American cars at the Nürburgring.
