Fontanesi's Instagram account wins Gibellina Photo Road 2019

The Kublaiklan collective won the 2019 edition of Gibellina Photo Road, a festival of open-air and site-specific photography in Gibellina, Sicily. Their winning proposal was a solo show of Fontanesi, a mysterious Instagram artist whose account has nearly 30,000 followers. The exhibition, titled 'Finzioni', featured large-format prints mounted on wooden cubes of various sizes, installed across the city's squares. The festival, founded in 2016 by the cultural association On Image, aims to interact with the urban fabric through outdoor exhibitions, installations, and projections. The 2019 jury included renowned image manipulator Joan Fontcuberta. Gibellina became a hub for contemporary art after its reconstruction following the 1968 earthquake, with environmental interventions by artists such as Alberto Burri, Mimmo Paladino, Nanda Vigo, Milton Machado, and Alessandro Mendini.
