Fondazione Zimei opens project room in Pescara with Giuseppe De Mattia show

Fondazione Zimei, founded in 2014 in Pescara and directed by Massimiliano Scuderi, has launched a new project room at Piazza Caduti del Mare 6 in collaboration with spazio Sei, founded in 2020 by Isabella De Luca. The space was inaugurated on October 26 with Giuseppe De Mattia's solo exhibition "Tombaroli Maledetti," curated by Scuderi. The project room is part of a broader strategy that now includes three venues: Teatro Michetti, the research space A Sud (launched July 2021 by Sabrina Zimei and curated by Scuderi), and the new project room. The program will run quarterly, with upcoming shows in February 2025 featuring French artist Tiphaine Calmettes, and around Easter a solo exhibition by Turkish artist Leyla Aydoslu, who previously participated in Fondazione Zimei's group show "Pickpocket" at Teatro Michetti in October 2023. De Mattia's exhibition focuses on the figure of the "tombarolo" (tomb raider), described as a cross between merchant and archaeologist, presenting works on paper that combine writing and drawing. The artist notes that the project originated from a conversation with Scuderi about objects that survive stories, leading to a series of "antefatterelli" — sketches tied to narratives. Scuderi emphasized that the foundation's strategy aims to build local networks connecting independent spaces with international contexts, fostering creativity and incubation.
