Fondazione Vincenzo De Cotiis Opens in Venice During Biennale Arte
A new foundation dedicated to contemporary art and design opens in Venice on April 19, 2024, coinciding with the Biennale Arte. The Fondazione Vincenzo De Cotiis, founded by architect Vincenzo De Cotiis and his wife Claudia Rose De Cotiis, is located in the 15th-century Palazzo Giustinian Lolin on the Grand Canal, which also houses the Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi per gli studi musicali. The foundation aims to promote appreciation of contemporary art and design through exhibitions, publications, and public art installations. Its inaugural exhibition, "ARCHAEOLOGY OF CONSCIOUSNESS VENICE," features three monumental arches by De Cotiis made from recycled fiberglass incorporating ancient stones, marbles, and Murano glass, installed in the palace courtyard. The arches, visible from the Grand Canal, dialogue with the facade designed by Baldassare Longhena around 1630. De Cotiis, born in 1958 in Gonzaga and based in Milan, has redesigned projects for Palazzi Giardini, Belgioioso, and Bonacossa in Milan, Palazzo Digerini in Pietrasanta, and Palazzo Salò in Salò, among others. Claudia Rose De Cotiis serves as president of the new entity, which is a spin-off from De Cotiis Venice.
