Fondazione Vedova Announces 2016 Program for 10th Anniversary of Artist's Death

The Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova in Venice has unveiled a comprehensive program for 2016, marking the tenth anniversary of the deaths of both Emilio Vedova and his wife Annabianca. The events kick off on May 29 with the exhibition "Emilio Vedova Disegni," curated by Germano Celant and Fabrizio Gazzarri, at the Magazzino del Sale, a space restored by Renzo Piano. The show features a wide selection of works on paper from 1935 to 2005, tracing Vedova's creative evolution from early influences of Venetian Renaissance and Baroque painting to avant-garde movements, the Plurimi series, and the 1980s works leading to his famous teleri "Dischi/Oltre" and "Tondi." A substantial volume published by Skira, edited by Germano Celant with biographical research by Luara Lorenzoni, focuses on Vedova's American period, centered on the "De America" cycle of about fifty paintings on canvas and paper created in Venice between 1976 and 1977, drawing on archival material from the foundation. The American theme extends to "Europamerica," a concert series curated by Mario Messinis running from July to November at Spazio Vedova, starting July 15 with jazz pianist Chick Corea and his Quintet, followed by Uri Caine, Letizia Michielon, and the JACK Quartet performing Pierre Boulez's "Livre pour quatuor."
