Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo hosts festival on colonial legacy
The Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, presents 'Everything Passes Except the Past', a show and online festival running from September 17 to October 18, 2020. The project features works by Bianca Baldi, Alessandra Ferrini, Grace Ndiritu, and the collective Troubled Archives, offering counter-narratives to colonial stereotypes. A discursive festival will be streamed online on October 17. Curator Jana Johanna Haeckel, project manager at Goethe-Institut Brussels, states the goal is to raise awareness in postcolonial societies about their past, while including experts from African countries to avoid a unilateral monologue. The project builds on the 2018 exhibition 'Anche le statue muoiono' at the same foundation, co-organized with the Museo Egizio and the University of Turin's Centro Scavi. The opening lecture is by art historian Bénédicte Savoy, followed by roundtables with activists, artists, and scholars from Africa, Latin America, and Europe on decolonizing museum collections, public space, and film archives. A publication documenting the project will be released between October and November 2020, including interviews, essays, artworks, and texts on restitution from both colonized and colonizer perspectives.
