Fondazione Prada Venice Explores the Human Brain in Third Chapter of Human Brains Series

exhibition · 2026-04-27

At the Ca' Corner della Regina in Venice, Fondazione Prada presents 'It Begins with an Idea,' the third installment of its Human Brains series on neuroscience, curated by Udo Kittelmann. Spanning three levels, the exhibition showcases surgical videos on the ground floor, while the first and second floors are filled with a maze of items contributed by 32 authors, including Salman Rushdie, with narration by George Guidall. Notable pieces include a 3D-printed Sumerian cylinder (King Gudea, 2120–2110 BCE), manuscripts from the 14th century, drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, an Andean sacrificial knife, texts by Descartes, a 19th-century anatomical model, and Bosch's 'The Extraction of the Stone of Madness.' On the top floor, Taryn Simon's installation features 32 monitors displaying philosophers and neuroscientists. The exhibition is open until November 27, 2022, and will be succeeded by 'Preserving the Brain' next autumn. Miuccia Prada remarked, 'We are convinced that talking about the human brain means talking about the human being.'
