Fondazione Prada's Milan Cinema Renamed After Jean-Luc Godard

institutional · 2026-04-27

Fondazione Prada has renamed its Milan cinema to Cinema Godard to honor the late French-Swiss filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who died in 2022. Starting in September 2023, the venue will highlight Godard's legacy, as he created two permanent installations there: Le Studio d’Orphée and Accent-soeur. A major retrospective of his films will run from February to December 2023, aligning with the name change. Miuccia Prada stated, "Cinema is a laboratory of new ideas and a space for cultural education," emphasizing the dedication to Godard. The programming, organized by Paolo Moretti, kicks off on September 1, 2023, featuring an "open festival" with thematic series, premieres, and live events, including discussions led by Rebecca Zlotowski and Werner Herzog on September 16 and 17.
