Fondazione Prada Opens Osservatorio Photography Space in Milan's Galleria

exhibition · 2026-05-05

On December 21, 2016, Fondazione Prada opened Osservatorio, a new exhibition space dedicated to photography, situated in Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This expansive venue, covering nearly 1,000 square meters across two floors above the Galleria's glass dome, provides stunning views of the city. The location marks the site where Mario Prada established the first Prada store in 1913 and is part of the ongoing expansion of the Prada Galleria, which already features a men's collection shop and Pasticceria Marchesi. Osservatorio will operate with its own entrance, staff, and a dedicated photography curator. The first exhibition, "Give Me Yesterday," curated by Francesco Zanot, will be on display from December 21, 2016, to March 12, 2017, showcasing works by 14 artists, including Melanie Bonajo and Ryan McGinley. After this, a winter exhibition will follow, along with a major show on 1970s Italian television imagery by Francesco Vezzoli at the Largo Isarco space, which was previously a McDonald's.
