Fondazione per l'arte e le neuroscienze opens with Raffaele Quida solo show in Maglie

On May 24, 2019, the Fondazione per l'arte e le neuroscienze in Maglie, near Lecce, inaugurated with the solo exhibition "Camere di registrazione" by Raffaele Quida (born 1968 in Gallipoli), curated by Carmelo Cipriani. The foundation, based at via Thaon de Revel, 25, explores the intersection of art and neuroscience, a growing trend in Italy also seen with the collective Numero Cromatico (now relocated to Pastificio Cerere in Rome) and Fondazione Volume!'s dedicated lab. Quida's research uses minimal parameters—space, time, form—and mixed media (drawings, sculptures, installations, performance) to challenge habitual perception, drawing from natural and industrial materials. According to Cipriani, Quida's work focuses on the process of memory rather than representation, aiming to uncover deep mechanisms of collective existence. The exhibition runs until June 30, 2019, and is accompanied by a daily lecture series at 8 PM titled "Percezione e bellezza" curated by foundation president Francesco Sticchi, who argues that art can break cognitive comfort zones and foster new norms against conformism. The foundation's mission is to bridge contemporary art with cognitive neuroscience, making scientific discoveries accessible to the public through aesthetic experience.
