Fondazione Negri Opens New Photography Space in Brescia

Fondazione Negri, established in Brescia in 1933 and renowned for its photography conservation, has opened Spazio Fondazione Negri, a new exhibition space at via Calatafimi 12/14, steps from its historic archive. The archive houses over 400,000 images, many on glass plate negatives, at the original Studio Negri villa on via Calatafimi 7. The space aims to be a center for reflection on photography as a language and its relationship with other arts and modernity, offering exhibitions of national and international artists, courses, seminars, themed evenings, author meetings, and school workshops. It also provides research and consulting services on specific works, the photography market, conservation, installation, and archiving. The opening was coordinated by photography historian Luisa Bondoni and operational manager Giorgio Finadri. The inaugural exhibition, 'Giovanni Negri, fotografo a Brescia,' opened November 14 and runs until January 5, 2020, featuring images by the founder from 1888 to 1917, including studio portraits, early commissioned advertising shots, views of Brescia and other Italian cities from his 1909 grand tour, and industrial documentation. A volume on Giovanni Negri's pioneering role was published in distribution with Giornale di Brescia.
