Fondazione MUVE first Italian civic museum network to obtain gender equality certification

institutional · 2026-04-26

The Bureau Veritas Italia has awarded Gender Equality Certification to the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE), marking it as the first civic museum network in Italy to achieve this recognition. The evaluation focused on various aspects, including culture and strategy, governance, human resources, opportunities for women's advancement, pay equity, and work-life balance. All MUVE locations, such as Palazzo Ducale and Museo Correr, across Venice, Murano, Burano, and Mestre were involved in this initiative. With a collection exceeding 700,000 works and five libraries, President Mariacristina Gribaudi highlighted the need for structural changes. Plans for the future include discussions on equality and partnerships with Fondazione Marisa Bellisario. Notable historical figures include Henriette Nigrin and Duchess Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa. In 2023, collector Gemma De Angelis Testa contributed 105 works to Ca' Pesaro.
