Fondazione Musei Senesi unveils 2024-2026 strategic plan focusing on contemporary art and community

institutional · 2026-04-26

Fondazione Musei Senesi (FMS), which oversees 50 museums across 31 municipalities in the Siena area along with partners including the University of Siena, Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena, and Accademia dei Fisiocritici, has outlined its strategic objectives for 2024-2026. Under the direction of Alessandro Ricceri, confirmed for a third term as president, the foundation aims to reinterpret heritage and collections through contemporary dialogue, strengthen ties with local communities and cultural players, attract younger audiences, and align with the UN 2030 Agenda. Carolina Taddei, FMS coordinator, emphasized initiatives such as Vis-à-Vis, which pairs museum collections with contemporary art, and school tourism programs targeting vulnerable audiences. In 2024, the municipality of Siena rejoined the network, and San Casciano dei Bagni joined; collaboration with Siena has already begun with DIDAday, an open day organized with Fondazione Santa Maria della Scala. San Casciano will host a future museum for the bronze statues discovered at the Bagno Grande archaeological site. FMS also launched the FMS Card offering discounts on local live performances, and the Florere project promoting sustainable practices in the cultural sector with workshops and events. The foundation has opened collaborations to private entities, such as Azienda Agricola Carpineto, which will inaugurate its own museum of agricultural tools, books, and wine-related objects in autumn.
