Fondazione Morra transforms Caggiano into a diffuse museum with Vettor Pisani works
Beppe Morra's Fondazione Morra has launched a project to revitalize the medieval borgo of Caggiano in the Cilento region of southern Italy by turning it into a diffuse museum of contemporary art. On June 30, 2023, the foundation inaugurated a permanent exhibition of works by Vettor Pisani (1934–2011) at Palazzo Morone, a historic building with Angevin architectural features. The show includes sculptures, objects, and installations from the foundation's archive, highlighting Pisani's distinctive approach. The project extends beyond this exhibition: from January 2024, another palace will host the archive of the Living Theatre, the famous American collective. The foundation is also renovating Palazzo Abbamonte in the oldest part of the borgo to house a summer school focused on documentary experimentation. Plans include a space for digital art exhibitions. Isabella Morra, Beppe's daughter, explained that the choice of Caggiano reflects a desire to restore the relationship between man, nature, and art, and to offer an alternative to the marketing-driven art world. Pisani was selected because his work, which he considered omnia, needed a setting where it could exist in its totality, similar to his unrealized Virginia art theatrum project near Siena. The initiative aims for cultural regeneration and urban revitalization through the concept of a diffuse museum.
