Fondazione Maria Cristina Carlini Opens in Milan in 2025

A new foundation dedicated to Italian sculptor Maria Cristina Carlini will open on January 22, 2025, adjacent to her studio in Milan at Via Savona 97. Directed by art critic and historian Flaminio Gualdoni, the Fondazione Maria Cristina Carlini aims to become a reference point for scholars, enthusiasts, and young artists interested in sculpture. The multifunctional space will display Carlini's works both indoors and outdoors, host events, conferences, and temporary exhibitions, and maintain an evolving archive of catalogs, videos, and documents covering her career. Born in Varese in 1942, Carlini began working with ceramics in Palo Alto, California in the early 1970s, later expanding to materials like stoneware, iron, corten steel, and wood. She has held numerous national and international exhibitions and created monumental works in Europe, America, and Asia. Her sculptures often incorporate natural elements and explore themes of memory and environmental fragility. Carlini stated the foundation stems from her personal need for openness and sharing, aiming to foster dialogue on sculpture and broader culture through collaborations with other institutions.
