Fondazione Marconi Honors Mario Schifano at 20 Years Since Death

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In 2018, the 53rd anniversary of Giorgio Marconi's career as a gallerist and his partnership with Mario Schifano, Fondazione Marconi presents 'Omaggio a Mario Schifano. Al principio fu Vero amore' in Milan from November 29 to February 16, 2019. The exhibition focuses on Schifano's first work shown at Studio Marconi in 1965, 'Vero amore', alongside pieces by Valerio Adami, Lucio Del Pezzo, and Emilio Tadini. The show marks the inaugural exhibition at Marconi's first space on via Tadino 15, replacing his father Egisto's frame workshop. Elsewhere in 1965, the Jim Crow laws were repealed, referenced in Nick Cave's 'Until' at Carriageworks in Australia, his largest and most complex exhibition to date. Also, Anni Albers' seminal text 'On Weaving' was first published by Wesleyan University Press in 1965, now highlighted by her major retrospective at Tate Modern until January 27, 2019.
