Fondazione Marcello Morandini to Open in Varese Spring 2020

The Fondazione Marcello Morandini, established in 2016, will open its museum in a 1930s villa in central Varese in spring 2020. The foundation, founded by artist and designer Marcello Morandini (born 1940 in Mantua) with support from two Swiss-American collectors, aims to become a leading European institution for concrete and constructivist art. The museum will house a permanent collection of Morandini's work and host temporary exhibitions. On December 11, 2019, a special preview will coincide with the launch of the catalogue raisonné curated by Marco Meneguzzo. The foundation's board includes Morandini, his wife Maria Teresa Barisi, engineer Mario Negri, journalist Nicoletta Romano, and manager Rudolf Wehrli. The 930-square-meter villa, adjacent 200-square-meter annex, and 3,300-square-meter park will include exhibition spaces, an archive, a design lab, a bistro, and a greenhouse for educational activities. Future plans include a group show on European concrete art inspired by the IAFKG group (1972-1988). Morandini also designed the sculpture for the 2020 Riemann Prize in Mathematics, to be awarded to Terence Tao.
