Fondazione Generali Celebrates 30 Years with Exhibition at Museum der Moderne Salzburg

The Museum der Moderne Salzburg is hosting a show marking the 30th anniversary of the Fondazione Generali, established in 1988 as a nonprofit art association of the Generali Group. The foundation's collection, on permanent loan to the museum since 2014, focuses on female artists and socially engaged art. The exhibition, titled 'Generali Foundation: 30 Years In Dialog with 1918 1938 1968,' runs until October 7, 2018, and explores key Austrian historical moments: the end of World War I and the proclamation of the Republic in November 1918, the Anschluss in 1938, and the 1968 protests. The collection includes over 2,100 works by around 250 artists, featuring international artists such as Valie Export, Ursula Biemann, Judith Barry, and Lynda Benglis. Sabine Breitwieser, director of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg and artistic director of the Fondazione Generali, stated that the anniversary show addresses the challenge of bringing history into the exhibition. The 2014 partnership between the museum and the foundation is a 25-year agreement, with the museum hosting the collection as a renewable loan. The museum also provides public access to the foundation's archive and specialized art and design library. Generali Austria financially supports the museum's activities, and the curatorial department manages collection growth through ongoing acquisitions.
