Fondazione Galleria Milano Opens with Brodsky Exhibition
Two years after closing its historic space, Galleria Milano reopens as Fondazione Galleria Milano on March 18, 2024, at Via Arcivescovo Romili 7 in Milan's Corvetto district. The foundation, led by Nicola Pellegrini, Bianca Trevisan, and Giovanni Oberti, aims to preserve the gallery's archive and promote contemporary research through exhibitions, performances, talks, and educational activities. The inaugural show, "Alexander e Sasha Brodsky. Piazza senza nome," features a large raw-earth installation by Russian architect-artist Alexander Brodsky (b. 1955, Moscow) and his son Sasha (b. 1995, active in Brooklyn). The installation, viewable only through windows cut into its walls, includes three obelisks and reflects on urban solitude. Drawings and prints accompany the work, which runs until June 8, 2024. The foundation's two-story space houses a library, archive, and exhibition areas. Galleria Milano was founded in 1928 by Enrico Somarè and directed by Carla Pellegrini Rocca from 1964 to 2019, who introduced Italian audiences to British Pop Art, Viennese Actionism, Gutai, and artists like Georg Baselitz and Joseph Beuys. The new foundation continues this legacy while engaging with the surrounding cultural hub that includes Fondazione Prada, Chezplinio, Viafarini Work, Villa Clea, Hub/Art, Reading Room, Bonvini, and Fondazione ICA Milano.
