Fondazione Franco Albini Celebrates 10 Years with Year-Long Program

institutional · 2026-05-05

The Fondazione Franco Albini, established in Milan in 2007, marks its first decade with the program 'Il segno tra ieri e domani' (The Sign Between Yesterday and Tomorrow), running throughout 2017—40 years after the architect's death. The foundation holds Albini's archive, declared a National Historical Heritage in 2002, containing over 22,000 drawings and 6,000 photographs, partly digitized. Franco Albini, a key figure of the 'Scuola di Milano' and pioneer of modern architecture and design, won the Compasso d'Oro in 1964 for his work on Milan's metro lines 1 and 2 interiors with Bob Noorda, Franca Helg, and Antonio Piva. Vice president Paola Albini states the foundation aims to make past culture relevant today, collaborating with other archives and foundations to disseminate Italian architectural thought. The program includes a logo competition (winners announced January 24 at Triennale), children's workshops at MUBA, a reading for International Women's Day honoring Franca Helg, a permanent mural for Albini during Salone del Mobile, a theater performance 'Il coraggio del proprio tempo' in April, a summer photo exhibition with unpublished images, guided tours, and a final homage in October, Albini's birth month. The initiative is supported by Fondazione Cariplo, Comune di Milano, La Triennale di Milano, and Politecnico di Milano.
