Fondazione Fotografia Modena sends seven Italian photographers to Greece for migrant crisis exhibition

The Fondazione Fotografia di Modena has organized the exhibition "Lying In Between. Hellas 2016" at the Foro Boario in Modena, running from September 15, 2016 to January 8, 2017. The show features works by seven Italian photographers—Antonio Biasiucci, Francesco Radino, Simone Mizzotti, Antonio Fortugno, Francesco Mammarella, Filippo Luini, and Angelo Iannone—who documented the migrant crisis across nine locations in Greece. A notable story involves Kurdish refugee Rouaf, who became Biasiucci's assistant on Chios and photographed refugees' hands and feet when Biasiucci could not enter the camp. Radino worked on Lesbos, where over 500,000 people landed in 2015 alone. Mizzotti focused on what he called "inhumane government camps." Fortugno explored absence and presence, while Mammarella drew parallels between refugee camps and Western homes surrounded by walls and barbed wire. Luini used reconstruction and performance to stage an imaginary journey. Iannone's project "Nulla che già non sappiate" compared migrants' temporal experience to an indefinite flight. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
