Fondazione Ferrero in Alba Hosts Major Jacques Henri Lartigue Exhibition

Following successful runs at Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, Museo Diocesano in Milan, and WEGIL in Rome, the Fondazione Ferrero in Alba presents 'L'invenzione della felicità', a major exhibition dedicated to French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue (Courbevoie, 1894 – Nice, 1986). Curated by Denis Curti in collaboration with the Donation Jacques Henri Lartigue in Paris, the show features 120 images spanning his career, from childhood experiments to his 1963 MoMA New York breakthrough. Lartigue, obsessed with capturing happiness, created 126 albums of cut-and-pasted photos with captions. The exhibition highlights his intimate and erotic work, including a never-before-albumed photo of his first wife Madeleine Messager ('Bibi') in a bathtub during their honeymoon in Chamonix, which Richard Avedon later urged him to 'resurrect'. A centerpiece is an unpublished series of facsimiles from Lartigue's albums documenting summers spent with his second wife Florette Orméa in Piozzo, Piedmont. An open-air exhibition in Piozzo is planned.
