Fondazione Emilio Scanavino opens in Milan with Triennale 1954 exhibition

institutional · 2026-04-26

In Milan, the Fondazione Emilio Scanavino has been created, evolving from the Archivio Scanavino, which Giorgina Graglia Scanavino established in 1999. This foundation aims to celebrate the contributions of Emilio Scanavino (Genoa, 1922 – Milan, 1986), a pivotal figure in Italian Informale and Spatialism. The archive relocated in spring 2022 to a refurbished 1920s structure at Piazza Aspromonte 17, aligning with the centenary of Scanavino and the exhibition "This is Tomorrow" (April–June 2022), overseen by Marco Scotini. The foundation will debut with "Les Monstres Amis. Emilio Scanavino e la X Triennale" (April 4 – June 22, 2025), curated by Scotini and Michel Gauthier, which will recreate the ceramics room from the 1954 X Triennale, showcasing avant-garde artists' critiques of functionalism.
