Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa annual residency exhibition opens in Venice
The Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice presents Opera 2016, the annual exhibition marking the end of a year-long residency for twelve artists. The show, titled with a line from Bertolt Brecht's poem "To Those Who Follow" — "Per dormire mi stesi accanto agli assassini" — conveys a sense of unease and uncertainty about the present. Works include Gioele Peressini's installation "Canteremo ancora nei tempi bui?" which questions hope in dark times, and g. olmo stuppia's "Skype_Mirror (SM)", a boat filled with water reflecting a collage of telematics conversations around the question "How would you change the world?". Nuvola Ravera presents a video depicting the world as a boxing ring, while Melania Fusco's work features confetti shot from a small cannon at regular intervals. Gosia Maria Jagiello paints failure on the walls of a blue room filled with zen sounds. The exhibition also serves as a handover to new artists, as the foundation has issued a new call for applications. Until February 28, young artists aged 18 to 30 (previously up to 35) residing in Veneto or domiciled in the Metropolitan City of Venice can apply for one of twelve studios at the SS. Cosma e Damiano complex on Giudecca or Palazzo Carminati at San Stae. Applicants must submit a detailed CV, a development project for their work, and an ISEE certificate for 2016, which no longer has a 30,000 euro income limit.
