Fondazione Benetton's Landscape Days Explore the Underground

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche has announced the new edition of its Giornate Internazionali di Studio sul Paesaggio, centered on the keyword 'sotterraneo/underground'. The event, scheduled for February 20–21, 2025, will take place at Palazzo Bomben in Treviso and stream on the foundation's YouTube channel. Approximately fifteen international experts from landscape architecture, ecology, natural sciences, environmental art, anthropology, and environmental humanities will discuss shifting focus from the surface to the deeper dimensions of landscape. The program aims to foster a more interconnected view of life on Earth, emphasizing intricate, invisible, underground relationships that include but do not center humans. A precursor online conversation with Cambridge scholar Robert MacFarlane, author of 'Underland: A Deep Time Journey', is set for February 14, 2025. MacFarlane stated, 'What lies beneath our feet? Secrets, patterns, connections, traces.' The foundation's initiative seeks to expand investigative and design tools to understand the contemporary meaning of landscape in both theoretical and operational aspects.
