Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare Opens 'Under the Spell of Duchamp'

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Fondazione Antonio Dalle Nogare in Bolzano will inaugurate the exhibition 'Under the Spell of Duchamp,' running until December 2025. Curated by Eva Brioschi, the show centers on Marcel Duchamp's 'La Boîte en Valise,' acquired for the collection a few years ago. This portable museum, containing miniature reproductions of his works, was conceived during World War II and embodies the essence of conceptual art. The exhibition explores Duchamp's revolutionary influence, emphasizing the mystical and magical dimensions of his practice. The smallest gallery will feature the piece on a table under a vitrine, with walls painted in 'Buddha Gold'—a custom color Brioschi developed by digitally mixing orange, yellow, and green, inspired by a Yoko Ono quote from a 1970s MoMA catalog. Other spaces will juxtapose Duchamp's works with selections from the Antonio Dalle Nogare collection, including pieces by Christo and Kienholz, highlighting ready-made reinterpretations and critiques of American society. The show is structured around themes: conceptual principles, process versus museum conventions, and the aura of the artist. Brioschi describes the exhibition as a 'magical and conceptual device.'
