institutional · 2026-04-27

Established in Viareggio, the Fondazione Alfredo Catarsini 1899 was unveiled on March 11, 2021, in honor of the renowned Versilian artist. Alfredo Catarsini (1899–1993) was not only a painter but also a writer and critic, having participated in three editions of the Premio Cremona, as well as the Venice Biennale in 1942, 1948, and 1950, and five Rome Quadriennale events. A retrospective exhibition will take place at Villa Bertelli from March 26 to June 6, marking the 30th anniversary of his retrospective at Palazzo Paolina and the 40th of his solo exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi. The foundation intends to promote Catarsini's legacy through a dedicated website and a publication containing 90 documents. An annual 'Festa dell’arte' will commence on July 24, coinciding with his birthday celebrations each year.
