Fondation Louis Vuitton Extends Chtchoukine Exhibition Due to Massive Demand

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris has extended its blockbuster exhibition "Icônes de l'Art Moderne – La collection Chtchoukine" due to overwhelming public demand. Already attracting 600,000 visitors, the show features 158 works, including 127 from Sergei Shchukin's collection and 31 from Russian avant-garde artists. The museum will extend hours during French school holidays, opening from 9 am to 9 pm daily, until 11 pm the final week, and until 1 am on the last night. Starting February 27, "Morning Chtchoukine" will offer breakfast from 7 to 9 am. The exhibition, organized with the State Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, runs until March 5, 2017. Shchukin, a visionary collector, amassed works by Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Cézanne, Renoir, Degas, Gauguin, van Gogh, Pissarro, and Toulouse-Lautrec between 1898 and 1914. He opened his collection to the public in 1908, influencing Russian avant-garde artists like Malevich, Rodchenko, Larionov, Tatlin, Kliun, Goncharova, Popova, and Rozanova before his exile in 1918. The exhibition is spread across four floors with fourteen thematic sections, including rooms dedicated to Gauguin, Matisse, and Picasso. A video installation by Saskia Boddeke and Peter Greenaway imagines a dialogue between Shchukin and Matisse about the works "La Danse" and "La Musique."
