Fondation H: Supporting Contemporary Art in Madagascar and Beyond
Founded in 2017, Fondation H operates between Antananarivo and Paris to promote contemporary art from Madagascar and the African continent. The foundation, directed by Margaux Huille, is part of the Malagasy industrial group AXIAN. It supports artists through exhibitions, residencies, and training programs. Notable exhibitions include Joey Aresoa's show curated by Fatima-Zahra Lakrissa, and Shiraz Bayjoo's exhibition curated by Ilaria Conti. The foundation also awards the Paritana Prize with the Cité internationale des Arts. Recent shows feature artists like Malala Andrialavidrazana, Maya-Inès Touam, M'barka Amor, Ms. V, Richianny Ratovo, and INDIE. The foundation offers free training programs for young artists from the Indian Ocean region. Despite Madagascar being the first country to suffer a climate-induced famine, the foundation's focus remains on art, while AXIAN addresses development issues. Upcoming projects include a residency by Comorian artist Myriam Omar Awadi and an installation by Burkinabè artist Hyacinthe Ouattara.
