Fondation Beyeler and UBS Launch International Artist Talks Program with Tino Sehgal

institutional · 2026-04-20

Fondation Beyeler and UBS have initiated Artist Talks, a new internationally-focused program that will travel to major cities including London, Seoul, Shanghai, and Istanbul. The inaugural event on Tuesday, 30 May at 6:30 PM features Anglo-German artist Tino Sehgal in conversation with Sam Keller, Director of Fondation Beyeler, and Senior Curator Theodora Vischer. This discussion coincides with the opening of Sehgal's exhibition at the Basel institution, where he will present six successive works from late May through October 2017. Born in London in 1976 and now based in Berlin, Sehgal creates what he calls "constructed situations"—immaterial works consisting solely of briefing instructions executed by interpreters, leaving no physical objects or documentation behind. The program aims to offer an open format ranging from classic artist talks to moderated conversations with art world personalities. Martin Herbert has written a feature on Sehgal, while Robert Barry reviewed the artist's Palais de Tokyo exhibition. Additional details are available at www.fondationbeyeler.ch.
