Fondamentale launches multidisciplinary talks at Biennale Architettura 2025

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

At the 19th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Fondamentale – La Filiera delle Costruzioni debuted its talk series 'Artificiale Collettivo' at the Corderie dell'Arsenale. Moderated by Sebastiano Maffettone, the event featured five experts including zoologist Donato A. Grasso, who cited Tiziano Terzani to advocate learning from ants' self-organization and flexibility. Physicist Mario Rasetti noted AI's minimal power needs compared to the human brain, calling it the greatest cultural revolution in decades. Computer scientist Giuseppe Italiano highlighted gaming's role in future trajectories. Architect Antonello Marotta argued against separating natural and artificial, citing UNStudio and Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Philosopher Maura Gancitano warned of risks in AI, while economist Luigi Serio and Formedil president Elena Lovera discussed construction industry openness to change, safety improvements via technology, and Formedil's training programs. Daniele Pitteri, curator of the talk series, emphasized the construction sector's diversity and its natural alignment with Carlo Ratti's Biennale theme of multiple intelligences. The series continues on September 25, October 16, November 5, and November 21, covering topics like natural/artificial intelligence, urban governance, human-machine collaboration, and heritage.
