exhibition · 2026-05-05

On September 28, 2017, Fòndaco Roma Design Gallery opens on Via della Frezza in Rome, a street between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Augusto Imperatore, near Antonio Canova's atelier. The gallery is part of Fòndaco, a concept street created by architect and entrepreneur Alessandra Marino, known for launching the multifunctional space 'Gusto in the late 1990s. Fòndaco spans 170 meters and houses various commercial activities under a unified aesthetic, including spaces for art, architecture, design, fashion, books, and textiles, with future plans for food, photography, music, and visual arts. The gallery presents a diverse range of design, featuring historic names like Alvar Aalto, Osvaldo Borsani, Paolo Buffa, Gabriella Crespi, and Gio Ponti alongside contemporary designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Paul Heijnen, and Nils Holger Moormann. For its opening, the gallery exhibits Miroir C by Jean Nouvel, a three-panel mirror from his 2014 Triptyques series. Nouvel, a Pritzker Prize winner in 2008, is also known for designing the Louvre Abu Dhabi, an 8,600-square-meter museum city opening in November 2017. Marino stated that art and design are integral to Fòndaco's concept, aiming to surround visitors with creativity throughout the entire street.
